Drawing from classic influences, the Downliners take an esoteric approach to songwriting by blending accessible melodies and lyrics with unexpected textures and experimental sounds. Hints of the Replacements, the Rolling Stones, the Lemonheads, Wilco, Uncle Tupelo, Tom Waits and Radiohead can all be found in Downliners music.

The Downliners completed their full-length debut ‘Soon’ with talented Austin producer Mark Addison in July 2003. Sounding like a three-way love child of indie, pop and country rock, the record keeps the listener guessing with a refreshing blend of traditional and more offbeat song arrangements. The diverse instrumentation includes lush electric guitar, analog synthesizer, banjo, trumpet, Hammond organ, Wurlitzer piano, and percussion ranging from glockenspiel to a Sears Craftsman lawnmower blade.

The band performs regularly in Austin at venues such as the Saxon Pub, Continental Club, Hole In The Wall, Antone's and Momo's and has held weekly residencies at both the Saxon and Momo’s. The Downliners have shared the stage with some of Texas' most recognized artists including Bob Schneider, Reckless Kelly, Abra Moore, Patrice Pike, Kelly Willis, Trish Murphy, Cross Canadian Ragweed, John Dee Graham, South Austin Jug Band, and many more.

The group has performed live on KUT FM’s Eklektikos and Live Set broadcasts as well as the local Fox TV morning news program.
